IB Diploma Physics - Standard Level
IB Physics SL study guide
Build a connected Standard Level pathway instead of revising isolated equations. This guide links the five-theme curriculum map to lessons, representations, data habits, and practice already available on GioPhysics.

Start with the model
Turn the SL course into a sequence you can use.
Start from the physical situation, decide which model applies, and only then choose equations. The GioPhysics IB map is organized around Themes A-E so mechanics, thermal physics, waves, fields, and nuclear physics remain connected rather than becoming five separate revision lists.
The existing topic directory is named IB Physics HL because it also carries the Higher Level extensions. Its individual topic labels distinguish material marked SL + HL from HL extensions and HL-only work. Use those labels alongside the current guide from your school; this page does not redefine the official syllabus.
Study pathway
Four decisions that organize the topic.
Follow the sequence or open the step that matches your current gap. Destination pages keep their existing access rules.
- 01
Map the five themes
Use the curriculum map to see how each syllabus point connects to a GioPhysics lesson and presentation.
Open this step - 02
Make mechanics visual
Move between motion graphs, free-body diagrams, energy stores, and momentum models before calculating.
Open this step - 03
Connect waves and fields
Compare representations, superposition, direction, and limiting cases rather than memorizing disconnected rules.
Open this step - 04
Practise with evidence
Show units, signs, significant figures, and uncertainty decisions so a numerical answer remains physically defensible.
Open this step
Use it deliberately
A repeatable SL study cycle
Use the same four moves for a new topic, a homework set, or a timed revision block.
- 01
Diagnose: explain the situation in words and sketch the useful representation before opening notes.
- 02
Build: derive or justify the relationship you need, naming assumptions and directions.
- 03
Apply: solve a short progression of questions and keep units attached throughout.
- 04
Review: classify each error as concept, model choice, mathematics, data handling, or communication.

Questions before you begin
Clear scope, honest expectations.
Does this page replace my school's IB course guide?
No. Use the current official material supplied by your school for requirements and assessment details. This page is a study organizer that connects GioPhysics resources to the local IB curriculum map.
Why do some links use an IB Physics HL URL?
GioPhysics maintains one combined IB topic directory so the shared core and Higher Level extensions stay connected. The topic-level labels identify shared SL + HL material, extensions, and HL-only content.
Is every lesson and presentation free?
The curriculum context is public. Individual lessons, presentations, files, and practice follow the access rules shown on the destination page.
