A spherical planet of radius R and total mass M has uniform density. Use the shell theorem to derive gravitational-field magnitude g(r) for r < R and r > R. Show that the field is continuous and maximal at the surface. Derive the small-oscillation period of a test mass moving through a narrow frictionless tunnel along a diameter. Evaluate the period for mean density 5500 kg m⁻³ using G = 6.674 × 10⁻¹¹ N m² kg⁻².

What a complete response should do
Develop a connected physics argument and support each claim with a relationship, calculation, or observation.
Make assumptions explicit, connect several ideas, and test whether the final result is physically reasonable.
